I think the ornamentation in the blouse design is not contemporary enough, but otherwise a nice combo.

I like the concept – instead of making the saree in monotone with some sparkles thrown in – give it a little splash of color.

So the blue textured edging/border is meant to give more 3D look and a little contrast to otherwise monotone saree.

Ok, it is not a real jail – it is “the jail restaurant”, but I like the visual impact.’

I know, she isn’t really “wearing” a saree – but it looked kind of seductive.

Nice interplay of Ivory and zari by Anita Dongre. There was another pinkish/red saree that I liked better from her collection.

Western India Princess contestant in a saree – doesn’t work from several different views – makes her look shorter, the pallu is a bit awkward and some flexibility on how to drape is lost.

Celina Jaitely looks very classy and exotic in this Columbia blue saree. This is kind of understated elegance for her and I like it.

I’ll post my fav Satya Paul saree from LFW tomorrow, but this one is pretty interesting as well. Large design elements are kind of hard to pull off, but for this one, some thought has gone in to the placement, so it is not too bad.

The upper house of India’s Parliament passed a bill Tuesday that would amend the Constitution to reserve one-third of the seats in India’s national and state legislatures for women.

The feminist in me approves of this bill and the constitutional amendment. I am actually saddened that one needs a constitutional amendment for this. There are 51% women, if all was well, there would be 51% lawmakers in Delhi and all other state capitols – 33% is very reasonable.

My grandmother told me a long time ago.. “son… if you don’t have anything good to say about somebody, you don’t have to comment, you can just go back to reading a newspaper.”

Satya Paul Saree at Lakme India Fashion week – I think it is called “Death by colors”

I showcased this saree a few days and I HATED the disjointed border then and I still do.

But now seeing the saree up close and looking at the blouse and the prints and cut work, I wouldn’t dismiss it as I did before.

This is a printed Kanjeevaran saree from Satya Paul. This is what the blurb say about it:

The Satya Paul collection has printed Kanjeevarams are a beautiful blend of the old and the new; while keeping in the beautiful richness of the thread work and borders of the Kanjeevaram, the use of print makes the look of the woman to be years younger.

A Kanjivaram silk sari with machine and hand embroidery.

I thought it was worth a second look.

I wouldn’t have guessed that this was from Manish Malhotra. I have seen some simpler pieces from him, but this borderlines minimalism. Not sure if I like it as much.

In a picture from another angle, you can see a broad bold border but I think that made the saree look even worse.

And please don’t make me comment on the saree below.
