I am happy to start a new category of posts of announcements of Trunk Shows! And I am especially pleased to have the first post in this section inaugurated by Trunk Sale by Pia Ganguly of Pia Ka Ghar.

What is a trunk show you ask? A “trunk show” is a special sale in which designer or vendors present special designs directly to select customers at a unique venue.

Trunk shows are a little more intimate than going to a large showroom and if you find that your style fits the designer that is holding the show, you come away with a saree that is more suited to your soul.

At times, designers hold a trunk show when the designs/pieces that they have aren’t large in number and are not suited for a bulk sale. In many cases it allows select customers or boutiques to purchase the pieces before they are made available to the public.

Trunk Shows are particularly popular in the bridal industry. January through May is Trunk Show season. Brides can view a larger selection of a bridal designer’s collection than is normally carried in a bridal salon. Trunk shows got their name from the way dresses used to be transported to these events–in trunks.
