Naomi Campbell in a saree at a Mubai Fashion Show.
Supermodel Naomi Campbell is in Mumbai to walk the ramp at the Lakme Fashion Week to show solidarity with the victims of 26/11 attack in Mumbai.
In an exclusive chat with NDTV, Naomi shares the pain of those affected by the tragedy and her love for saree.
NDTV: Will you be wearing a saree on the ramp as well?
Naomi: Well I will be wearing a saree but not sure if its going to be this one. Probably another colour. I have got a few picked out. Everytime I come to India I always make sure I dress traditionally. I love sarees, they are so elegant.
NDTV: You have been in Mumbai a couple of times. What is it about Mumbai that forces you to come here again and again?
Naomi: The culture, the food and the people keeps drawing me here. I saw the bomb attacks on television and I really wanted to help. So, when the sponsors got in touch with me I decided to be a part of this.
NDTV: Tell us a little of what we can expect from your show?
Naomi: Well, I never give away any names of the designers. It ruins the element of surprise. But what is so great about fashion week is that its not just VIPs but regular people who get to see the shows and that’s really special. It means a lot for the charity we are supporting. It’s for the tragic disaster that happened here – a trauma that we will never forget.
These designs will be available for purchase via a silent auction online on ebay – and the proceeds will directly support the initiatives of the ‘Citizen For Justice and Peace’.
Fashion for Relief is the brain child of Naomi Campbell started in 2005 – to bring together the fashion community to raise funds in times and places of need. The supermodel believes the event will send a message of solidarity and hope to the citizens of Mumbai.
