Hot Choli! Hot Actress! Beautiful Madhubala is the star of a collectible card from her all-too-brief time as the most popular Bollywood Babe, probably painted in the early 1950s. As a pin-up girl, I think she is still unsurpassed today – she exuded a sexiness that was not cheap, crude or fake.
The cut of the blouse was structured to support and create well-defined breasts, actually a traditional Indian practice from far before the era of “cantilevered” brassieres that were worn by Hollywood starlets. The costume was a study in red and gold, with coordianted flowers in Madhubala’s rich auburn hair. Such a classsic choli would have looked great with almost any saree, or perhaps even better paired with sophisticated high-waisted trousers!
