I love this image! Gosh, am I a Smart Woman…? Maybe Rustic, since I collect regional sarees. This shop in Benares might be in business today, but I’d want it to still look as I imagine it did when the photograph was made. No sarees in the image, but it was too wonderful not to post. There were no dates on the album pages of old Indian views offered on eBay, but they look earlier than WWII to me. The rather haunting girl below is also from that photo album, with no identification. Her white saree is so plain and pristine, showing a different drape than usual - no pleats and a diagonal fold upwards. She looks lovely and I suspect she was a maid at a lodging place for tourists.

Honestly, I liked their last year’s calendar a lot better. It was sexy, it was sensuous; this one just looks like three women in same saree in a caricature.
This ad looks awfully plagiarized. Are they suggesting that the sarees in the ads have been designed by them?
