Vintage Musings on Music

Here is another cute advertising card with a pretty girl to catch your eye.  The early portable record player is likely meant to be the focal point, but the luminous choli and rich red saree, as well as the model’s lovely expression, definitely steal the show.  The balanced colours, draperies and subtle highlights make this an appealing piece of commercial art.  We wonder what sort of music a girl like this would have liked, back in the 1930s or so.  Handy wind-up phonographs (sans horn) were used for decades, even after electricity was widely available, to play music outdoors.
