A postcard sitting in two views, from 1910 or so. These are not the best reproductions, and I think the amazing sheen of the choli has faded somewhat. But the method of dressing the model’s hair is lovely, rolled back to frame and soften the face.
The studio accessories are trite; no flowers or fan needed. Of course I love the glimmering spotted pattern woven into the silk saree. Her ankle jewellery is impressive and the little slippers (that she probably wanted to kick off), add a sense of life and movement to the images.
