Actress of Big Boss 6 is saris – What an amazing group of women

Sayantani Ghosh

I don’t get a chance to watch as much TV as I would like, especially Indian TV, and the shows like Big Boss are not on my list of shows to watch, but at times you have to pause and take notice of the really amazing and interesting group of people that shows like these bring together.

The list of people in Big Boss 6 is just wonderful.

Cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu was the first to enter the house, with a rocking introduction by Bhangra-pop singer Daler Mehndi.

Southern actress Sana Khan, who was part of the “The Dirty Picture” remake, entered next, followed by actor-comedian Vrajesh Hirji.

Next was Sampat Pal, leader of women`s activist group Gulabi Gang. Though an unusual member on the show, Sampat received all house members extremely warmly.

There is another activist in the show – Aseem Trivedi, the controversial cartoonist, who was recently in news for his anti-corruption art works.

Small screen`s glamour girls Urvashi Dholokia and Aashka Goradia stepped into the house to add spark in the contestant line-up.
If their on-screen characters are anything to go by, they are sure to create some fireworks in the house this season.

Sayantani Ghosh of “Naaginn” fame too is a part of the show.

Actor Dinesh Yadav added the Bhojpuri flavour to the line-up this year, while celebrity hairstylist Sapna Bhavnani, known for her “bindass” and tomboyish, tattooed avatar, left everyone in the house quite intrigued.

The big surprise came with the entry of actors Delnaz Paul and Rajev Paul, who are now a divorced couple.

Proving once again that reality is stranger than fiction and nothing any writer ca dream of will ever match the fireworks real situation can create.

I wouldn’t mind spending a little time in a house with these ladies.

Nida Mahmood at Blender’s Pride 2012

The more I see her designs the more I get fascinated with her. I am ashamed to say even though I had heard of her before I had never really looked her up. The kind of work she does is what I love and what I crave to have hanging in my wardrobe someday. I remember telling my best friend a year ago while pensively staring at the ceiling one night that the reason I don’t like Indian kitsch that is available so readily everywhere is because it is so bad and done in such an obvious manner and I would love to have a wardrobe full of the so-called kitschy and oh-so-Indian patterns in my wardrobe – clothes and shoes and accessories et all. Nida’s work has made me love Indian kitsch even more. Her work is colourful, detailed, refreshing and exciting to watch.
FYI Nida designed the dress with 2000 LED lights on it which Lady Gaga wore on her F1 trip in India last year.

From debiparna_chakraborty at Fly Song Bird Check her out. I agree with her views on Nida Mahmodd.

Be Your Own Sari Maker

There are hundreds of these dress-up dolls on the Internet. There are even several saree and Indian themed ones around but this is by far the best one I’ve seen (click on the image to go to the site). The variety of colours, patterns and borders available really gives you the feeling that you’re designing rather than just picking from a few options. In spite of the name, it will also do lehengas, salwars and I even managed a sarong kebaya. Great fun to play with just don’t tell any of my male friends that I’ve been playing with it. ;-)
