I love this picture but the story behind it makes it even more appealing. This is Poornima Vardhan. She used to be an investment banker in New York City but she’s now returned to her hometown of Delhi where she works as a general manager for a leading Indian fashion house. Poornima is one of a growing number of highly educated expats who are being tempted back to India by it’s booming economy. However, as she explains in an interesting article in the New York Times (which you can read by clicking on the picture), as a business woman returning to India, she faces an unusual problem. Her New York wardrobe is just too drab for Delhi. Poornima explains that, ‘My wardrobe had to expand by at least 50 percent when I came back. There’s a lot more diversity to the clothing needed in India.’

Lovely image and thought-provoking article. Sad that anything about New Delhi has to mention women being raped in order to “explain” not wearing thigh-high dresses. Unles you are a Bollywood actress, of course, which they didn’t say!
