Patna Portraits on Vintage Saree Sunday

This serene and lovely lady’s saree is sheer and glistening with zari spots of differing sizes – much more dressy than ordinary polka dots. She wears sandals and long earrings for the formal portrait, the mount listing the studio in Patna.

There’s a date, maybe 1947, on the reverse of the group shot. The people are identified as “Nawab Sahib K.B.K M. Ibrahim Khan Bahadur & Begum Zubaida & Nephew Kurshid.” Her saree is something simpler for day wear, an allover design with a modest border. The blouse has the fashionable wide shoulder line with pads at the top of the short sleeves. The trendy western-style suit on the boy is too cute!  I haven’t researched the sitters yet but suspect they are notable, recorded somewhere.
