A fresh - even naive – pastoral view on this postcard from 1905.
Love the realistically rendered pink and green choli and saree, the pallu out of the way so the happy girl can get down to work! The print looks like it was taken from a photograph, and I think the artistic effect is far better than adding muddy colours to a photograph. This makes me want to put on a flowing saree and run barefoot through fields of ripening grain like a beautiful Bollywood film star or perhaps a Hindustani goddess Ceres….
Wow,this is like it’s right out of a Mehboob Khan film: A young, vibrant woman, the farm, the golden stalks of grain, the gav, and the characteristic sickle, all nicely nostalgic.
It does look like the image is based on a photo. I wonder if it’s still existent?
