Peeli Kothi – Sabyasachi in Calcutta or Kolkata – inspired by pre-Partition India.
Take a bow, Sabya: spectacle of moods, moments and magic
Sabyasachi Mukherjee’s Peeli Kothi, presented by Taj Bengal and t2, was about moods, moments and sheer magic. The 20-minute style spectacle on Thursday night saw Sabya pull off yet another of his trademark spellbinding acts. Opening with a kathak performance by dancer Mitul Sengupta, the show unveiled layer after layer of the designer’s fall-winter 2011 looks inspired by “pre-Partition” India. The line draws on elements from “all corners of the country”, reflected in silhouettes from Kashmir and the north-west frontier, the Tagore family, Rajasthani maangtikas, embellishments from Agra and more. A full house watched in rapt attention, putting their hands together for every set. .
