Saree with a leather belt

I really have very mixed feelings about sarees with belts. Have never seen it done right.

Let me take that back; I think I have seen it done correctly, but during the process of making the belt look great or appropriate, the saree becomes secondary. I am thinking of some work by Ritu Beri, for example.

Here is one:

I have a simple rule” If the belt touches the skin, it probably doesn’t belong in the outfit.

But I do like the lace trimming of the saree and the blouse. Over all, it is a great effort.

When the house of Satya Paul calls a Saree as Exotica, you got to stop and take notice.

I think the pose is striking and it is exotic in the sense that one would not expect a saree clad woman to hold this pose, but I am not sure if I’d call this Saree an Exotica. I am trying to decipher the print on the saree to see if that is exotic or not, but it doesn’t strike me as such.

Oh how much I hate those Anarkali blouses!

Ok, I get it. You are a woman. God has endowed you with certain assets. You are probably very proud of them, but do you really have to paint them red and have them stand out? Ok, bad pun, but this is ridiculous. Are we turning in to primates that one has to paint a body part red to connote attractiveness? Just lipstick wasn’t enough?

As if that wasn’t enough, the red is surrounded by about zillion sparkling Swarovski crystals, reflecting light and dazzling you and making sure that you didn’t miss that red part!

Geeze…

Tarun Tahiliani Bridal Couture Exposition 2011 ‘Artisanal:

Tarun Tahiliani Bridal Couture Exposition 2011 ‘Artisanal -

The theme chosen for this year is ‘Artisanal- Bringing the Craft to the Fore’- an entirely novel blend of Indian finery with a layered western construct.

Talking about the Exposition, Tarun Tahiliani said, “It is a proud moment as the exposition travels & enters its third season. We have received overwhelming response from our clients in the past & we expect the same this season. The exposition this year is a tribute to the artisan hands that pour their energy into creating and preserving works of depth and beauty. ‘Artisanal’ is an inspirational confluence of two great artisanal traditions in a unique fashion; Indian Couture layered in a Western Construct. The exposition presents our rich heritage with the finest weaves, embroideries, jewels, stones and techniques. This, we hope, will bring our artisans and processes to the fore, resulting in a new luxe and fine fit that is uniquely Indian in taste.

Absolutely gorgeous, except whats with those toes? They shouldn’t be in this highly orchestrated image.

I just love the colors, gentle and feminine and sweet.
