Where I live it’s been triple-digit temperatures for more than a month, except for that cold day when it was only 99 degrees.  So here is my dream location for hot-hot weather: a breezy beach, perhaps near Bombay.  Put on a modest, vintage swimsuit in some rich colour, then a sheer saree in a similar shade with zari checks to add sparkle.  Tie a pretty scarf in your hair and you’re good to go!  Sort of a girl-next-door look from 60 years ago. The model for Life magazine photographer James Burke was film actress Malini Jaywant (1926 – 2010), who was most popular in the 1950s.
