I know, I have been there. Saree is perfect but it needs a splash of color; but adding a bright color chunni is not the solution! Managing saree is hard as it is, don’t add another free flowing piece of fabric to it. You can add a heavy shawl sometime, because it stays in place; but don’t go the easy route.
Thanks to Bollyone for the images
Actress Bhumika Chawla sports an embroidered black sari. Generally, machine embroidery can look flat and unappealing, but if the pattern is intricate, as it is in this case, and done in different shades, it can look very attractive. In Bhoomika’s sari, the shades of green and blue stand out nicely in a backdrop of black.
I don’t particularly want to, but I feel obligated to show you a picture of Marshana wearing a saree that she designed.
She looks more like a caricuture then a graceful saree wearer.
Why do I torture you with such bad designs? So you may appreciate some great designs, my friend.
I have always lamented the loss of beautiful hats from women’s fashion; so for me to see a saree with hat combo is very special.
Most people probably won’t like it, but I find it delightfully nostalgic.
Take away the hat and you are still left with a gorgeous saree and ruffled blouse.
I think after seeing these pictures, I have used up my quota of cuteness for the day.
Meet the little stars in Singapore. The proud parents help the kids celebrate deepavali.
Very precious pictures.
The mother doesn’t look like the tiger mother sort. If she was, I wonder if she would let the daughter wear a readymade pre-pleated saree. The little girl would have to stay in her room, practice pleating the saree for about 100 times and when she can drape the saree in 20 seconds, and only then, she can go out to play.
Hmm, come to think of it, thats not a bad idea – they should do that in India.
This idea of celebrating new year in other cultures is a good one. I get drunk on Christian new year and I eat too much on Indian new year but I always wanted to go to a Chinese new year and get under that huge long dragon and shake it!
What can I say? Some people want world peace, I just want to a part of paper dragon.
And this is how it looked on the runway
There are some dresses, you can tell that they were influenced by saree designs; this is not one of them.
yes, it does have sareesque quality to it, yes, it is draped the same way, but then so was toga.
I like this dress. I think Karl Lagerfield designed this for Chanel? Any way, he had something to do with it. Considering how talented he is, he could just be a photographer.
Hat tip to BP for pointing it out.
