Here is Vidya Balan with her cotton handloom saree paired with an LV clutch.

It might make a great personal statement, but I don’t think it works as a fashion statement.

This MUST be the the Indian equivalent of “Mom Jeans”. The sari and blouse are OK but very dowdy. If I were her age and wore a handloom, Id have gone with a sleeveless blouse to jazz it up-as it is she looks like her Mum. Hell-I personally would have worn a sleeveless blouse and I’m older than she is. What doesnt work are the clutch-too formal and overdecorated, her hair, and the total lack of any jewelry. She looks like she just got out of the shower and threw on her mum’s old cotton sari while her hair dried….. She could use a better hair cut-all those straggly ends need taking off. A plain matte black fabric clutch would have worked better. As it is, it draws the eye straight to it and away from her. What a mess.

I think her outfit is this statement: “I don’t know how to dress myself and I need a stylist NOW!”

I think my Mom’s maid servant dresses better than this. So much money and beauty just wasted here. I feel she dresses like this just to thumb her nose at everyone.

I love handloom saris, but this one is a sorry specimen. Looks like an old kitchen towel.
Like Naina said, so much money and beauty wasted. Thing is, VB is very beautiful and can look so much better.

What has beauty got to do with it: she has no style. And the “beauty” is a matter of taste: these Bollywood girls all look exactly the same and this one needs a nose job. Why are we bothering? I am so fed up of model/actress/celebrity worship. Who cares about them anyway? I thought this site was about saris?

Like “S” , I love cotton handloom sarees, but I am sure there are nicer ones that would match better to this kind of event.. this one looks like the saris I have to practice Bharatanatyam and I don´t even bother to starch them,,,

No, its worse, its a “sit on the porch for a week yakking with your girlfriends because you are having your period and cant do anything” sari…..

    LOL…@anon, that’s a funny comment.

Not when you’ve lived it. SO glad those days are over, for me at least. I cant stand those anti-technology types, usually men. Have they ever tried living it? NOT fun and you end up looking like this…..
