Shilpa Shetty is one of the very few actresses (Tabu is another example) that can pull off almost anything without trying too hard
Agree with above post. I have never seen Shilpa look sleazy like SO many others. She CAN pull off this look with class. It helps that her blouse is stylish, but not the stupid looking tiny bikini top. A diamond bracelet would be a nice addition, but if you look hard you can see her huge diamond wedding ring. Ok, maybe a bracelet isn’t necessary afterall!
ok, can someone please explain how to tie a petticoat for this look without it riding up? Do you have to have perfectly flat abs or something? All the Googling I do on it just takes me to sites with creepy men talking about how women should wear their sarees like this (and lower) – UGH. advice pls?
Adriana, you have to put the petticoat on your hips at the point you want your sari to hang. You must have a drawstring in the petticoat to tie it snuggly so it doesn’t move.
Once the petticoat is in place and snug on your hips, put your sari on. Keep in mind, you may need a shorter petticoat since you will be wearing it lower than at your waist.
Reply if you still have questions! Jaya
Also looks nice if you don’t tuck in the rest of the saree part that goes around your hips. Leave it open/untucked like Shilpa does. See the picture. Might help conceal some of the muffin top
Yes, the part of the saree after the pleats that wraps around the back needs to stay untucked. It also needs to be pinned to the petticoat around your right hip.
This look works well if you’re skinny to curvy, but not so well if you have more weight on your hips than what would qualify as curvy. Also, I should caution that the skinnier you are, often the more skin you can show without looking slutty.
Another note, I don’t hate Shilpa Shetty, but I do think her makeup is a little overdone with the drawn-in eyebrows.
hye there.. usually to have a shape when tying a saree… u can stich ur own petticoat wher u dun have the string.. u stich it according to ur hips size.. with a hook.. not a string.. because string petticoat crumples up when u tie a saree and it wont be very neat.. try and see
i forgot.. plus when u stich the petticoat.. the shape of the petticoat will be shapier… so when u tie a saree it will be more shapier…
Do you have to buy extra narrow saris to do this look? After all its being worn 5-6 inches lower-where does the extra go, esp if you want to show the top border? It sounds uncomf. at the very least.
I think it would be a great idea if some manufacturer would come up with a saree petticoat that has Spanx like material ( not so tight though coz it will roll up – unless the panties are part of it), on the top portion and the rest should fall like a regular petticoat.
I’m a size 6, but I’d never try this unless I get down to size 2. Well, that’s just my preference. But I see that a lot of tubby tummy women wear the saree this way. I suppose I have watched one too many “What not to wear” show!
I agree with SJSindu about the weight factor. I think this style works if you’re skinny. Skinny people somehow don’t look slutty…all you can think of is feeding them a sandwich
Hi All
This is a great design – love the baby pink, similar to some i have in my own collection.
Thanks for sharing
