I am a feminist for a very simple selfish reason; some of the people I care about the most are of female persuasion!
There is a new book by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn about women all around the world. The title of the book, Half the sky comes from an old proverb “women hold up half the sky”.
IN THE 19TH CENTURY, the paramount moral challenge was slavery. In the 20th century, it was totalitarianism. In this century, it is the brutality inflicted on so many women and girls around the globe: sex trafficking, acid attacks, bride burnings and mass rape.
Every time I see systematic injustice against women, I wonder: don’t these people have mothers and sisters and wives? Why would they treat women that way?
I am looking forward to reading this book and do whatever I can to empower women all over the world!
