Elizabeth Hurley and Cherie Booth Blair, wife of the former British Prime minister Tony Blair, donned elegant saris to honor powerful Asian women in a gilded reception in London. Elizabeth Hurley, since her marriage to Arun Nayar, has become very expert in wearing a sari. She shows off an ecru colored sari with gold sequins. A feminist and an independent thinker, Ms. Blair wears a complementary colored georgette with light embroidery.
I know this is not a sari but the outfit has been draped very cleverly to resemble a sari. For one, it is made out of an earthen colored tanchoi sari, with a burnished gold border and embellished along the front with toned down jari work.
The composition is beautiful. The earthy tones of the kaftan are matched by the clay hues of the walls, and the terracotta foot stool on which Julia is sitting. The bare feet, flyaway auburn hair and the neutral colored hoop earrings all add to the natural composition of the picture.
Can’t figure out the outer garment she is wearing on top of the blouse. Also not too sure about the orange flowers! Oh well, it is an interesting picture and at times that’s enough to make it on this website.
